10 Strategies To Optimizing SEO For Your Blog

How does optimizing SEO work?

Google has developed an automatic algorithm that ranks your site. They send out “spiders” or “bots” to “crawl” your site and by checking over 100 indicators such as backlinks, domain age and content quality, to determine if your site is valuable or useless.

The art of Search Engine Optimization, or SEO in short, is to make sure that these spiders are happy with your content. Although Google constantly change their algorithm, there are a few constant indicators and that is what I am going to discuss here in this post.

10 Strategies To Optimizing SEO For Your Blog

Before we get started. I just want to remind you that if you have any other tips that were not mentioned in the post that you would please leave a comment with them down below.

  1. Paid domain and hosting

Why should I pay for a domain name and hosting if I can use one of the countless free website builders on the internet?

Well, your own domain name and paid hosting service has professional written all over it. When you are using a free domain name you give the impression that you are not serious about your website/ blog. And Google only wants to point to websites that are serious and trustworthy

After setting up your domain on a hosting service you would need to read this blog about how to start your own blog.

  1. Write original contentWriting content

Google’s main purpose is to give its readers useful content. You have to show Google that your website consists of original content. If you can answer the questions that Google users are asking your content will get a lot of views, and it will get shared

Original content don’t just consist of the blog posts you make. Your focus should be on something greater than that. Start taking your own photos, making your own podcasts and videos, and if you have some coding background you could develop a plugin that will set you out from the rest of your competition.

  1. Build backlinks

Backlinks are links on other websites redirecting traffic back to yours. It is a very difficult process to increase your backlink numbers and therefore people will look at blackhat methods to increase them. These ways include the buying of fake backlinks. Although it sounds pretty cool, it is not something you should do because when Google catches on to it your website will be deleted.

Although increasing your backlinks are difficult there are methods to do it safely. One of these methods is to write quality content and then guest post on other blogs in your niche and leave a backlink.

Interlinking is just as important. This is the art of linking between the posts in your own website/blog. Linking a post to another relevant post is a way to increase your pageviews and keeping your viewers browsing your blog for longer. This increased view time works positive towards your search engine rankings, because google associates quality traffic with increased visitor session duration.

  1. Make sure your blog’s theme is SEO optimized

Ways to optimize your blog’s theme can include:

  • Mobile responsiveness.

If your blog is not mobile responsive you will be losing a lot of visitors because Google priorities mobile sites for people searching on smartphones.

  • Fast loading

Fast loading sites offer the best user experience and thus good for Google. Faster sites will enjoy more traffic sent by Google.

  • Original themes

Original themes are way better than your free themes that has a thousand people using them. It is good strategy to invest in a custom made theme.

  • No broken links

Clean up all of the links in your site that doesn’t have an end destination to make it easier for the “spiders” to crawl your site.

Having a custom made theme will also be important for your brand. A custom themed website gives the impression that you are serious.

  1. Fix your permalink structure

Permalinks are the links through which traffic is directed to your blog and its internal pages.

A popular strategy is to have your post name present, but you can also shorten your permalink if you want to rank for a certain keyword.

Warning!!! Don’t change your old permalinks, this will break the links from your backlinks to your page. Only change the new ones.

  1. Install a sitemap

Probably one of the easiest things you can do is to install a Google sitemap plugin that gives a full map of all your posts, pages and archives. There are many to choose from but the most common one people use is this one and it seems to work well.

When you install the plugin onto your site it generates a map of all your sites content every few minutes and submits it to all the major search engines to be indexed. You are basically giving them a map to your site so they can index it better.

  1. Comment on other blogsComment in blogs

Comment on authority blogs to increase traffic, exposure and build new relationships. You also get backlinks which will help with your ranking in search engines.

Using software like Market Samurai, you can see where your competitors are getting their backlinks from. A lot of them will come from comments on well ranked blogs. Use this information to your advantage and post a comment in these blogs and leave a backlink to your site to poach some of their traffic.

  1. Build your social media profiles big timeGrow Social Media Profiles

Google has started monitoring social media to determine if a post is well written or not. And that will influence its search engine rankings.

By building a loyal social media following and writing great content your chances are greater to get ranked higher if your supporters start sharing your posts.

Some big things you need to start doing:

  • You need to tweet the big fish in you niche

Big fish have a larger following than you do. If you communicate with them you could ask them favors in the future like re-tweeting one of your post. This increases the amount of people who has seen your post, and the amount of traffic you get to your blog

  • Add separate value.

By posting information that isn’t on your blog you give your followers a reason to keep on following you. This increases your post engagement in the long run.

  • Share content other than your own.

Humans have a funny way of doing things. I first have to do something for you before you do something for me. This is exactly how it works in the social media scene. Take advantage of this and share and retweet as many other accounts as you can. Maybe they will return the favor.

The bottom line is. Focusing on social media traffic will increase

  1. Use SEO plugins

There are many WordPress plugins out there that you can install on your blog to help you with SEO. Probably the best one to start with is the All In One SEO Pack

  1. Read

This probably sounds like the worst piece of advice that I have given through the entire post. But guess what, you READ the entire post, so guess what, not so bad advice after all.
